What do baking a cake and flying a drone have in common? Dr. Niki Patrinopoulou answered this question for students of the 1st Model Junior High School of Thessaloniki during their recent visit to the ITYE “DIOFANTOS” in Patras, explaining that both require clear instructions and specific “ingredients.”
The students were welcomed by the Institute’s Vice President, Mr. Michalis Paraskevas, who briefly presented its work and mission. They then took part in interactive activities focused on technology, programming, and the history of school printing, including a visit to the archival space “Traces and Memories.”
Particular interest was shown in the “Drones & Algorithms” session, where students engaged in hands-on activities to better understand how algorithms work and how they guide drone navigation. They also explored modern educational tools such as the BBC micro:bit and its applications.
The visit enhanced students’ interest in STEM fields and highlighted the value of experiential learning. It concluded with very positive impressions, reaffirming ITYE “DIOFANTOS”’s role in promoting innovation in education.
