The Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports announces the establishment of thirteen (13) Innovation Centers (I.C.), one in each Regional Directorate of Education across the country. These Centers will begin operating in the upcoming 2025–2026 school year.
The Innovation Centers are modern hubs of education, innovation, and cutting-edge technology, serving both Primary and Secondary Education. Their mission is to strengthen the connection between the educational process and technology, science, and creativity.
The Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki, stated:
“With the establishment of thirteen Innovation Centers—one in each Regional Directorate of Education—we are taking another decisive step towards transitioning primary and secondary education into the new digital era. Above all, we are ensuring equal access to knowledge, cultivating 21st-century skills in our students, and encouraging collaboration between the school community, research, entrepreneurship, and innovation. With modern infrastructure, advanced technologies, and highly qualified teaching staff, the Innovation Centers aim to become a vibrant pillar of learning and creativity for our students and educators. This is a key reform we are implementing with the support of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, reinforcing the digital transformation of education and working toward a school open to new ideas—one that inspires our children. With the Innovation Centers, we are delivering on our commitment to education that leaves no one behind and moves forward with planning and consistency.”
The Innovation Centers will operate in modern, well-equipped facilities provided by local authorities, municipalities, or universities. They will be staffed by highly qualified educators responsible for implementing the educational programs. The pedagogical planning and scientific oversight of the Centers will be ensured by the Computer Technology Institute and Press “Diophantus,” with the approval of the Institute of Educational Policy.
This initiative is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” and is co-financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
