As part of the 9th IEEE World Conference on Engineering Education (EDUNINE2025), entitled "Education in the Age of Generative AI: Embracing Digital Transformation," which took place in a hybrid format (in-person and online) from March 23 to 26, 2025, in Montevideo, Uruguay, a virtual presentation was delivered under the title "Innovation Centers: Designing a New Learning Space for Primary and Secondary Education in Greece."

This presentation focused on the establishment of Innovation Centers—an emerging institution within the primary and secondary education system in Greece—aimed at redefining the learning approach in the digital age.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted traditional teaching practices and accelerated the shift toward remote and digital education, the need for a more flexible, technologically enhanced, and inclusive educational environment has become more urgent than ever. At the European level, the European Union responded to this challenge with the Digital Education Action Plan 2021–2027, which seeks to strengthen the digital competencies of both teachers and students and promote the use of innovative technologies in the learning process.

In this context, Greece is moving forward with the creation of Innovation Centers as spaces not limited to traditional instruction, but rather functioning as laboratories for research, experimentation, and collaboration. Educators and students are invited to explore new pedagogical methods, leverage the potential of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies, and co-create a learning environment that meets the evolving demands of the 21st century.
